Facebook Video Breaks School Viewership Record

Providence College posted a “Welcome Class of 2020” social media video yesterday that has gone viral and broken the College’s social media records. As of noon today almost 17,500 unique views have occurred on Facebook.

In this 4 minute and 29 second video, PC mascot, Friar Dom, “speaks” to his audience using a set of flip cards. He shares tips every Friar should know including the fact that the College is celebrating its centennial, has more than 55,000 alumni, and that those people lapping runners around the track might just be Olympians (#CoachRayTreacy).

The video has the most total impressions for a pre-recorded video since February 2016. (Data is only kept by Facebook for a previous six-month time period.) The video is also top nine for PC for reach and top nine for engagement.

The video was also posted on Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube.

Founded in 1917, Providence College is the only college or university in the United States administered by the Dominican Friars. The Catholic, liberal arts college has an undergraduate enrollment of approximately 3,900 students and offers degrees in 49 academic majors.  Since 1997, Providence College consistently has been ranked among the top five regional universities in the North according to U.S. News & World Reports’ “America’s Best Colleges.”
