Providence College Surpasses $140 Million Campaign Goal

College Reaches Goal Earlier Than Expected;  Will Continue to Build Upon Momentum Through Centennial Year

Providence, R.I. – Providence College announced today that the College has surpassed the original $140 million goal of its comprehensive campaign – Our Moment: The Next Century Campaign for Providence College – fifteen months earlier than anticipated.  The College plans to continue the campaign through summer 2017, the original timeline, and build on the momentum generated thus far.

“We are humbled by the generosity of members of our Board of Trustees, alumni, parents, faculty, staff, and friends who have made this achievement possible, and I am personally grateful to every person who has made a gift of any size,” said Providence College President Rev. Brian J. Shanley, O.P.  “As with any effort of this magnitude, success is dependent upon the deep commitment of many, and God has truly graced us with a remarkable community of supporters who share in our high aspirations for PC’s future.

“The campaign has allowed us to offer continually more financial aid to our students. It has provided funds for faculty-related and other academic initiatives. It has helped with the stunning transformation of our campus. Above all, it has supported the pursuit of our shared, strategic aspirations and helped us continue to emerge as one of the nation’s best Catholic, liberal arts institutions,” Fr. Shanley said.

Providence College launched the Our Moment campaign, the most ambitious fundraising endeavor in the College’s history, in July 2011.

“This is certainly a milestone for us, but it is not our end point,” said Gregory T. Waldron, the College’s senior vice president for institutional advancement.  “Rather, our success has convinced us to move forward and continue to build on our institutional momentum.  We are heartened by the support we have received to date, and we will work diligently to invite our community to bring this campaign to even greater heights as we prepare to celebrate the College’s Centennial next year.

Campaign funds are being used to support student scholarships, improve academic facilities and programs, advance further the institution’s Catholic and Dominican mission, and increase the College’s Annual Fund.   Of special importance is growing the College’s endowment, which provides scholarship aid for students and supports numerous other initiatives.
