PROVIDENCE COLLEGE TO OFFER NEW GRADUATE PROGRAM IN BUSINESS ANALYTICS
PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND, JANUARY 25 2021: Providence College announced today the creation of a new graduate degree program in the College’s School of Business (PCSB): the Master of Science in Business Analytics (MSBA).
The Providence College MSBA is a 30-credit hour program that will be delivered by expert faculty from both PCSB and the School of Arts & Sciences’ Department of Mathematics and Computer Science. The program will be offered either on a full-time basis for one year or on a part-time basis over two years. It is a rigorous, quantitative program that blends best practices from finance, operations management, math, and computer science to equip graduates for a successful career in the growing field of business analytics. The program was designed by Dr. Jacqueline Elcik, associate dean of PCSB, Dr. Jonathon Jackson, assistant professor of finance, Dr. John Seiffertt, assistant professor of computer science, and Dr. Adam Villa, associate professor of computer science.
The program is open to anyone with a bachelor’s degree in any discipline, and is expected to be attractive to those who will be interpreting data as well as those whose undergraduate degree is in the social sciences, health care management, economics, political science, marketing, finance, and more. There are two foundational requirements that must be completed before entering the program: enrollees must achieve Microsoft Excel certification and provide evidence they have completed a college-level statistics course with a grade of B or better. The MSBA concludes with a real-world project consulting assignment.
“We expect this program to be of great interest to many recent graduates, people looking to change careers, and those who require a graduate degree to advance in their analytical careers,” said PCSB Dean Sylvia Maxfield.
The application deadline for the full-time program is May 1 and the deadline for the part-time program is July 1. The program will be offered virtually as well as in-person on campus. There is no GMAT/GRE required for entry into the program.
Founded in 1917, Providence College is the only college or university in the United States administered by the Dominican Friars. The Catholic, liberal arts college has an undergraduate enrollment of approximately 4,000 students, and offers degrees in 50 academic majors.
