Providence College Ranked #1 in U.S. News and World Report’s “Regional University – North” Category for 2017

Providence, R.I. – Providence College (PC) is ranked number one in U.S. News & World Report’s 2017 “Best Colleges – Regional Universities – North” category. The rankings were released earlier today. PC ranked second in the category last year.
“In recent years, Providence College consistently has been ranked within the top five institutions in our category,” said PC President Rev. Brian J. Shanley, O.P. “Now, in our Centennial year, it is gratifying to see us reach the top spot in the rankings. I think it is a testament to the growth and maturity of our institution, to our excellent faculty and staff, and to the high quality student we have been able to attract and graduate.”
The 653 universities in the regional universities categories are ranked against their peer group in one of four regions: North, South, Midwest and West. Higher education institutions included in the ranking provide a full range of undergraduate majors and master’s degree programs.
Providence College’s top scores include:
- 100 Overall score – Highest score
- 3.7 Peer assessment score – Highest score
- 91% Average first-year student retention rate
- 12:1 Student/faculty ratio
- 18% Average alumni giving rate
U.S. News & World Report puts out this ranking to help domestic and international students compare the academic quality of U.S.-based schools.
Founded in 1917, Providence College is the only college or university in the United States administered by the Dominican Friars. The Catholic, liberal arts college has an undergraduate enrollment of approximately 3,900 students and offers degrees in 49 academic majors. Since 1997, Providence College consistently has been ranked among the top five regional universities in the north according to U.S. News & World Reports’ “America’s Best Colleges.”
