Providence, R.I. – John M. Sweeney, a resident of Glastonbury, Conn., and senior vice president/chief financial officer at Providence College, was chosen as Providence Business News (PBN) “CFO of the Year.” He will be honored, along with other winners at PBN’s inaugural “C-Suite Awards,” on April 26, 2016, at the Omni Hotel in Providence, R.I.

Prior to coming to PC, Sweeney was associate vice president at Eastern Connecticut State University (ECSU) for 10 years and served in a senior cabinet-level position as ECSU’s associate vice president for finance and administration.

Active in the community, he serves as coordinator of lectors and Confirmation facilitator at the Church of St. Dunstan in Glastonbury. He also has served as a member of the alumni board of directors at the Norwich Free Academy and as a commissioner on the Glastonbury Town Ethics Commission.

Sweeney received a bachelor’s degree in finance and master’s degree in business administration – both from the University of Connecticut.
