FATHER JUSTIN BROPHY, O.P., NAMED SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT OF MISSION AND MINISTRY

(Providence, R.I.) – Providence College (PC) announced today that Fr. Justin Brophy, O.P., has been promoted to the role of Senior Vice President of Mission and Ministry. Fr. Justin, a faculty member in the Department of Political Science, began as an associate chaplain in 2012, left for graduate school in 2015, then returned to PC as an assistant professor of politics in 2020.
“Fr. Justin brings a deep understanding of Providence College’s mission to be an academically excellent, faithfully Catholic and Dominican liberal arts college to the position,” said PC President Fr. Kenneth Sicard, O.P., Ph.D. “He seeks to pursue a vision that demonstrates that Providence College’s commitments to academic excellence and to Catholic and Dominican mission are not commitments held in tension, but rather commitments which are unintelligible without the other.”
As director of the Center for Catholic and Dominican Studies, Fr. Justin developed innovative programming for student formation, founded the Lacordaire Fellows Program for faculty, and hosted forums on pressing issues in Catholic higher education. In this new role, Fr. Justin will seek to integrate mission more deeply into every facet of Providence College. Specifically, his immediate priorities will be on continuing his work in faculty and student mission formation and developing collaborations and relationships across campus. He will have oversight of the activities and the chaplains and staff of Mission and Ministry as well as the special advisor for integral human development and dignity.
A member of the Dominican Province of St. Joseph, Fr. Justin was ordained a priest in 2012. He holds a B.A. in philosophy from the University of Notre Dame and an M.Div. and S.T.L. in moral theology from the Pontifical Faculty of the Immaculate Conception. He holds a Ph.D. in political theory from the University of Notre Dame. He has published scholarly articles on Plato, Nietzsche, Alasdair MacIntyre, and the Catholic intellectual tradition.
