Carmen Aguilar Named Dean of School of Continuing Education
PROVIDENCE, RI, AUGUST 21, 2020: Providence College (PC) announced today that Carmen Aguilar has been named the College’s new dean of their School of Continuing Education (PC-SCE). PC-SCE offers myriad programs designed for busy adults and provides students with the flexibility to earn a degree, strengthen their resume with a professional certificate, or simply advance their career with skills learned from new classes. Prior to joining PC, Ms. Aguilar was dean of the Center for Workforce and Community Education at Bristol Community College, a position she had held since 2006. Previously, she was the director of Bristol’s Center for Business and Industry. Earlier, she was program director of the Center for Innovation in Learning at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Kenen-Flagler Business School. She also spent six years as global instructional technology manager for OneMBA, a collaboration among five of the top graduate schools of business in the United States, Latin America, Asia, and Europe.
Ms. Aguilar earned a B.S. in Engineering in Computer Systems from the Instituto Tecnólogico de Morelia in Mexico. She also earned a MS. In Management Information Systems from the Instituto Tecnólogico y Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, also in Mexico. She is Green Belt Six Sigma certified.
Ms. Aguilar has served as vice president of the board of directors at HealthFirst Family Center in Fall River, MA since 2013, and is a member of the 2017-2020 Latino Advisory Commission for the Governor of Massachusetts. She has been the Bristol representative on Bristol County Chambers of Commerce, the Workforce Investment Boards in Bristol Country and New Bedford, on the MA Community College Workforce and Community Education Taskforce, and on the MA Department of Higher Education Allied Health Advisory Group.
Founded in 1917, Providence College is the only college or university in the United States administered by the Dominican Friars and has an undergraduate enrollment of approximately 4,000 students.
