FriarServe is a service initiative that pairs Providence College volunteers with five Providence Catholic Pre-K – 8 schools. This service component is a companion to PC’s gift of $200,000 to Catholic schools in the Diocese of Providence.

The success of the FriarServe program represents the strong community service culture the students, faculty and staff of have Providence College. Thank you to all of our volunteers for supporting our local community.

Frequently Asked Questions

What volunteer opportunities are available?

Once you register, you will be contacted to explore opportunities that match your interests. Some examples include tutoring, mentoring, or after school clubs.

Who can volunteer?

Students, faculty, staff, and administrators at Providence College.

When can I volunteer?

Volunteer opportunities for the fall semester will be available from February through April 2024.

Where are the schools located?

All schools are in Providence, with the exception of St. Rocco in Johnston, and are within ten miles of campus.

Will transportation be provided?

Campus Transportation will give volunteers a ride to each school upon request.

What is the time commitment?

That varies depending on the availability of the volunteer and the needs of the schools. Service hours can be one-time, weekly, monthly, or any other arrangement that works for the schools and volunteers.

How does it work?

The Office of Public Affairs and Community Relations will work with the FriarServe schools to identify volunteer opportunities and match them with PC students, faculty, and staff who are able to volunteer.

Is a background check necessary?

All volunteers are required to obtain a background check through the Diocese of Providence. PC will cover the cost of background checks and assist with completing required paperwork. Previous FriarServe BCI’s will still be valid; however, we cannot accept any other type of BCI.

Can’t commit to volunteer weekly?  No problem!

The schools are always looking for guest readers, classroom assistant drop-ins, or help for special events.
