Providence College Partners with Providence CityArts

Providence, RI – The Community Lens course at Providence College will be organizing a photography exhibition entitled commYOUnity: Everyone’s a Masterpiece. The gallery opening will be held Thursday, April 27 from 5:30pm – 7:30pm at CityArts, located at 891 Broad St, Providence, RI.

The collaboration with CityArts and YouthRAP is a semester long project of seventeen Providence College students. They have explored art as a tool for social change, using photography as their medium. For eight weeks, the PC students have had the opportunity to exercise their classroom knowledge by sharing a unique experience of mutual learning with the young artists of both partner organizations.

The exhibition will showcase artwork by the young artists, which was captured during lessons facilitated by the PC students. A series of abstract portraits will be used to highlight a theme of self-expression and self-identity within one’s own community. In this exhibit, the audience is given a glimpse at how these young artists see themselves—an experience with an empowering message.

commYOUnity: Everyone’s a Masterpiece will be a night dedicated to celebrating young artists and the community. Refreshments will be served and donations will be accepted. Proceeds will be given to the partnering organizations, CityArts and YouthRAP.
