Providence, RI, November 27, 2023– Providence College announced today that is collaborating with former PC Men’s Basketball and professional basketball star Ernie DiGregorio on the distribution of Ernie’s book Star With a Broken Heart.  The book is a soft-cover reprint of DiGregorio’s 2020 memoir, and focuses on the relationship between Ernie, his PC teammate and fellow star player Marvin Barnes, and their coach, Dave Gavitt, who later became PC’s athletic director and the founder of the BIG EAST Conference.

“This is a very personal story about life-long journeys, and about hopes and dreams. But the tale isn’t without sadness,” said DiGregorio. “Basketball and Providence College have been a huge part of my life, so have Coach Dave Gavitt and my teammate Marvin Barnes. Since I’m the only one left, I feel it’s especially important for me to tell the story, and I want to share this non-fiction book with fans of PC basketball, with PC alumni and the general public,” DiGregorio said.

To facilitate book sales and distribution, DiGregorio has entered into a marketing partnership with the College and Barnes & Noble Book Sellers. Books are currently available at PC’s Barnes & Noble store on campus. An online purchasing option will be available through Barnes & Noble in the coming days.Barnes & Noble will fill online orders placed by Dec. 18 in time for Christmas.

DiGregorio will also participate in book signings at the Amica Mutual Pavilion in Providence before and during Friar home games on Sunday, December 10th and Saturday, December 16th, and at the Barnes & Noble store on campus on December 1st.

Proceeds from sales of the book will directed to financial aid for students from Rhode Island with preference for students from Providence and North Providence.
